Well, my 30s are drawing to a close tonight — just a few hours till the big 4-0 — so I thought I’d share my top 10 favorite
wines wine moments of the past decade:
#10) Visiting Traverse City the same day Sleeping Bear Dunes was named the most beautiful beach in America. The wine way up in Michigan? Most definitely belongs on its own list of superlatives. (August 2011)
#8) July 2, 2013. Became a U.S. citizen. Celebrated w/ the most American-of-all-American bubbly: Iron Horse Brut Cuvée.
#7) Tempura ramps paired w/ a Grüner Veltiner, Terroir, NYC: Genius! (April 2010).
#6) Traveling halfway around the world & still managing to track down a wine bar tucked away in a long, dark alley – Tastings, Hong Kong. (February 2011)
#4) Da Rosa Café, 6eme, Paris. A never-ending glass of rosé w/ a generous helping of charcuterie on my last sunny day in Paris. (October 2009).
#1) Napa, Bastille Day, Clos du Val. A picnic followed by a half-drunken encounter w/ a Brazilian psychologist & her Toulouse Latrec-sized friend from Luxembourg. After a few rounds of oysters and a sparkling blanc de noirs, she totally got into my head: that was the moment I realized how special wine has been – and always will be – to me. (July 2008)
And an honorary mention…
February 12, 2012. Passed SWE’s exam, earned CSW: 97%, yikes! Not that I’m doing anything w/ it. Except maybe drinking more (and more) wine w/ good food & good people.
Cheers to what’s next!

He started to appreciate the stuff over a decade ago, earning the Certified Specialist of Wine from the Society of Wine Educators in 2012, and has been gushing over it ever since. This is his first full-length blog post and hopes to keep you updated on the wines he loves, the tastings he attends, what his friends take a liking to, and all the play-by-plays from his upcoming travels. ***
